Sources and licences
Fijario is built on a mix of open data and hand-written material. This page says which is which, credits the projects the open parts come from, and states the licence the adapted parts are available under.
Word definitions: adapted from Wiktionary
The English gloss, part of speech, article and gender on each of the 5,000 word pages started life in the English Wiktionary, whose text is published under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International licence (CC BY-SA 4.0) and, in parallel, the GNU Free Documentation License. Several of the 828 example sentences that survive on those pages also come from Wiktionary entries.
This material has been modified. The import kept only the first sense it found for each headword, which for a frequency list is often the wrong one, so entries have been re-sensed, reworded, relabelled and in many cases rewritten outright; machine-generated example sentences and memory hooks produced by the import were removed rather than shown. Each word page links to the Wiktionary entry it came from, where the full text, its authors and its edit history can be read.
Because those definitions are adapted from CC BY-SA material, the adapted definitions on this site are themselves available under CC BY-SA 4.0. Reuse them under the same licence, credit both Wiktionary and Fijario, and say that you changed them if you do.
Frequency ordering: an open word list
Rank #1 to #5,000 follows an open frequency list published under the MIT licence, generated from the OpenSubtitles2018 corpus: hermitdave/FrequencyWords. The ordering is used as published; no ranks were reordered by hand.
Written for Fijario
The conjugation tables for 289 verbs across 6tenses are generated by this site's own conjugation engine and checked by its own test suite. The 36 phrase patterns, the grammar guides, the study tools and every hand-written example sentence and memory hook on the phrase pages were written for Fijario. Corrections to imported definitions were checked against standard Spanish reference dictionaries before being made; those dictionaries are not affiliated with Fijario and nothing here implies their endorsement.
Free and paid
Every word page, verb page, phrase page and guide is free to read and is never gated. Premium unlocks practice surfaces built on top of that reference layer. See the Premium page for exactly what that covers, and the terms of use for everything else.
