About Fijario
Fijario teaches Spanish in frequency order. The idea is old and simple: de, que and no turn up far more often than murciélago, so learn them first. Around the ranked list sit verb tables, phrase patterns, drills and quizzes for adults working toward everyday listening and speaking.
Where the list and the glosses come from
The order of all 5,000 words follows the Spanish file of hermitdave/FrequencyWords, an MIT-licensed list built from the OpenSubtitles 2018 subtitle corpus, so it reflects spoken dialogue more than newspaper prose. The English glosses began as entries in the English Wiktionary and are re-shared under CC BY-SA 4.0; the sources and licences page sets out what was changed and what was not.
The 8 long-form guides link each verb, phrase or rank they mention to the page carrying it, so a claim about a word sits one click from the entry behind it.
Who is behind it
A single independent developer runs Fijario. The same person keeps a few other language sites: Hafiza for Turkish, BolNama for Urdu and Fahm for Arabic, plus SyntaxShelf, a programming reference. They share an owner and some code, which is the whole of the connection.
Every guide is signed Fijario. None carries an individual byline, and their structured data lists the site's organization as the author. No teaching qualification or academic credential is claimed here.
What a frequency course cannot do
A rank tells you how often a word appears in film and television subtitles, not which sense you will meet next, and the first gloss on a word page will sometimes be the less useful one. There is no certificate at the end of this and no instructor to correct your pronunciation or your writing. Spanish is spoken across some twenty countries; where a form belongs to one region, the notes say so rather than ruling on it. Fijario is not affiliated with any other language-learning brand.
